Lynda Tabuya alleged video scandal
Lynda Tabuya, Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, has made public the broadcast of a private video that has allegedly been released and which has been circulated on various online platforms.
In a statement, Tabuya strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a severe intrusion into his personal life. While he acknowledged the existence of the video, he did not confirm whether he was the person in it. In any case, he made it clear that the distribution of the video, whether real or insidious, violates his unacceptable policies.
Tabuya expressed her sadness over the incident, saying it reflects the constant struggles women face, especially in terms of cyberbullying and harassment. He also called for the introduction of strong policies and educational initiatives that focus on digital ethics and responsible online behavior.
As a public figure, Tabuya reiterated his commitment to his work, particularly the empowerment and protection of women, children and vulnerable groups in Fiji. Tabuya stressed the importance of upholding the values of dignity, privacy and the rule of law, and urged both the media and the public to abide by these principles.
In response to the violation, Tabuya confirmed that he has referred the matter to the appropriate authorities for a full investigation, in the hope that the perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions. Despite the personal nature of the matter, he vowed to remain focused on his work and not be distracted by the controversy.
Tabuya also took the opportunity to reflect on the Christmas season, drawing parallels between his current challenges and those faced by Jesus, who endured ridicule and accusations with grace and compassion. He encouraged people to use the season to encourage one another and to instill kindness and respect in children.
Offering an apology to those behind the video, Tabuya expressed confidence that the law would deal with the matter appropriately. He also thanked his family, colleagues and the wider community for their support, urging anyone facing similar situations to seek help through the right channels.
In this development, Premier Sitiveni Rabuka said he had met Tabuya earlier in the day, seeking clarification on the content of the video.
