Shannon Lofland, a 21-year veteran of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in Colorado, has resigned after it was discovered she had participated in adult films. Lofland, 44, cited financial hardship as the reason behind her decision, including $500,000 in damage to her home from a June 2023 storm, high interest rates, and escalating living expenses. She described her choice as a desperate effort to provide for her family during a challenging time.

Lofland acknowledged that she did not seek approval for her side job, a violation of department policy. However, she defended her decision, stating to KCNC-TV: “I found a legal, lucrative way to support my family when I needed to save our home and provide for them.”

Her story has sparked public sympathy, with many supporting her actions in light of her financial struggles. Lofland noted that her brief foray into the adult film industry allowed her to pay her mortgage and described the environment as professional and free from coercion or pressure.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office declined to comment, citing privacy and due process. Lofland also resigned from her position on the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board as part of the fallout.

Despite stepping away from law enforcement, Lofland expressed deep affection for her job and the impact she made in her role. She has not ruled out continuing in the adult film industry as she evaluates her future options.
